Commissioning Process

Zoe

The above image of "Hope" was a great photo from which to work.

Photos

The commission process begins with your photographs. Ideally, I would like to have at least 4 high quality, in-focus photographs of each pet – more is better (see photo tips). Include at least one photograph of your favorite pose to be used for the painting. It is important to include good close-ups of your pet's face (the eyes and muzzle in particular) with good examples of eye color and coat color.

If you're not sure about a photo, send it to me and I'll be happy to provide suggestions. All hard-copy photos will be returned. If you live in the Jacksonville, FL area, we can set up a time and place to meet you and your pet for a quick photo session (an additional charge may apply).

Personality/Mood

Please include some information that conveys your pet's personality and his or her specific traits that make you love them so much. It is vital for me to set the mood of the painting (i.e. serious, smiling, sleepy, swimming, etc.) and to understand what makes your fur-baby unique. Please try to include at least one photo to illustrate the mood you want.

Painting Size

Choose the size of your painting. The two most popular sizes are 11x14 and 12x16. Some considerations might include where the painting is going to be hung, the size of your animal, or the price (see price list).

Background

Please indicate what background colors you would like in your painting, or you can leave it up to me to choose what works best with your pet(s). Custom backgrounds with details, such as a special blanket, fabric, favorite toys, specific settings, etc. may alter the price of the painting.

Deposit

A 50% deposit must be included with the order form (click to download) and photographs. The final 50%, plus shipping charges and sales tax, are due after you have approved a photograph of the completed painting and prior to shipping or delivery.

Once a deposit is received, it will secure a spot in the order queue. Though the painting process takes an average of 2-3 weeks (depending on the size, number of pets and any customizations), our current order queue will determine how quickly I can get to your order. During gift-giving seasons, orders increase substantially and additional weeks are required to complete an order. Your pet portrait will be painted on primed, stretched canvas, using high-quality archival materials. A list of popular sizes and typical prices are listed on the pricing page. Pricing increases with size and the number of pets in each painting, as well as other customizations, such as props added to the painting (toys, hats, sunglasses, etc.) or a detailed background.

Gift certificates are available.
